  • SDPI's Popular March Concludes

    Thiruvananthapuram: Popular March organised by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in three zones of Kerala demanding that 'democracy should not be denied to the marginalised' concluded instilling confidence among backward, minority sections of the society and giving strong warning for those who are trying to suppress the party through intimidation and false propaganda.

    The marches which began on 3rd of this month from south, Malabar and north zones of the state went through almost all districts. The south zone march was concluded at Thiruvananthapuram with a huge rally and a public conference, participating thousands of people. The public meeting was inaugurated by state general secretary M K Manoj Kumar. He alleged that political parties and governments were conspiring to annihilate the new born party through indecent means. Ibrahim Kutty, P H Rasheed master, Thulaseedharan Pallikkal, P K Radha among others spoke on the occasion.

    The Malabar march ended at Feroke in Kozhikkode district also with a big rally and public meeting. The north zone march went through different parts of Kozhikkode, Kannur, Wynadu districts and concluded at Kunjathur in Kasarkode district.     The Popular March was organised in the backdrop of police atrocities against SDPI. The police had raided the offices of the organisation and the houses of its activists under the cover of investigation into the assault case against a college professor at Muvattupuzha who was arrested and then released on bail in a blasphemy case.
    The Popular March gave a strong warning to the authorities who are trying to oppress the political empowerment of marginalised people through intimidation and false propaganda.
    The people's participation in the marches all over the state was a loud and clear message for the authorities that people's movements could not be crushed using police and media.
