  • Warm Reception for SDPI's 'Popular March' in Kerala

    Kozhikkode: Warm welcome was accorded to Popular March organised by 'Social Democratic Party of India in three zones of Kerala demanding that 'democracy should not be denied to the marginalised.
    Hundreds of people waited in different reception points ignoring pouring rain and bad whether.
    The three marches started on Tuesday from Vadakara (Kozhikkode), Tirur (Malappuram) and Alappuzha will conclude today.

    The Malabar zone Popular March was inaugurated by Adv. K P Muhammed Shareef, state president at Tirur handing over SDPI flag to V T Ikramul Haq, leader of the march and state secretary. More than three thousand people participated in the march here. March was led by Malappuram district president Memana Bappu, vice presidents P P A Latheef, Jaleel Neelambra, district general secretary Basheer Vengara, vice presidents A K Abdul Majeed, Adv. Sadiq Naduthodi, treasurer P V Ummer Koya, march coordinator C G Unni, women leaders Ammini Muthukad, Ramani Babu, Nafeesa Veetichal and others.

    The south zone march was flagged off at Mannanchery in Alappuzha by state secretary P K Radha. Flag was received by march leader and state leader Thulaseedharan Pallikkal.
    The governments at centre and states are trying to topple the fundamental rights of backward, minority communities, alleged P K Radha. It will lead to the weakening of the democratic and secular ideals of our country, she added.

    The north zone Popular March was started from Kainatty near Vadakara. Pallipram Prabhakan handed over the flag to the captain, Yousuf Wayanad. Kozhikkode district president Haris Vadakara, general secretary Muhammed Nadvi, Kannur district secretary Noushad Punnakkal were the leaders of the march.
    The marches passed through various districts of the state were joined and welcomed by hundreds of people all along the way.
    The march was organised in the backdrop of police atrocities against SDPI. The police had raided the offices of the organisation and the houses of its activists under the cover of investigation into the assault case against a college professor at Muvattupuzha who was arrested and then released on bail in a blasphemy case.
    The Popular March gave a strong warning to the authorities who are trying to oppress the political empowerment of marginalised people through intimidation and false propaganda.
