Bhopal verdict is Second Judicial Disaster: SDPI
New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), while vehemently deploring the Bhopal Chief Judicial Magistrate’s judgment in the case of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, world’s worst industrial disaster, described it as the Second Judicial Disaster in the matter of the Union Carbide genocide of December 1984. This judgment excluded the CEO of Union Carbide Corp. Warren Anderson from the list of guilty and allowed the rest of the guilty (including Keshub Mahindra, the then CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. which controlled the Indian subsidiary of Union Carbide Corporation to go scot free of the charges of genocide (murder) in Bhopal more than 25 years ago.
Aboobacker, president of SDPI, in a strong-worded statement said that the verdict in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy case was a mockery of justice. The judgment was on the expected lines as the hands of the CJM were tied by the charges framed under Section 304A of Indian Penal Code, (IPC), and not under Section 304-II of IPC which had been struck down by the Supreme Court of India in 1996.
He questioned the role played by the local protectors of the company viz- our politicians and bureaucrats? Why were the authorities responsible for enforcing safety regulations not touched? Was the state not a party to the accident? Officers from the state and Central Governments regularly visited the plant and issued safety certificates duly collecting the booty. This incident is yet another disturbing reminder that the poor don't matter in India.
Meanwhile, the First Judicial Disaster took place on February 14-15, 1989 when the Supreme Court of India put its stamp of approval on the shameless agreement reached between Union Carbide, on the one hand, and the Union of India and the Madhya Pradesh Government, on the other. The Supreme Court, through its 1989 judgment, freed Union Carbide of all Civil Liabilities (and negated both compensatory and punitive damages) and thus rolled red carpet for the neo-liberal capital to begin its plunder and loot in India from 1991 onwards.
Aboobacker said the government should learn proper lessons the from Bhopal gas tragedy. He demanded the civil nuclear liability Bill, which fixes the maximum amount of liability in case of a nuclear accident at Rs. 500 crore, to be paid by the operator of the nuclear plant, should be reviewed forthwith in the light of the Bhopal gas Tragedy.

SDPI Demands bifurcation of Malappuram district
Malappuram: Social Democratic Party of India demands bifurcation of Malappuram district in Kerala and form separate Tirur district. In a press conference conducted at Malappuram, state leaders of the party said that they would lead public campaign in this regard till the demand was met.
We will submit memorandum raising the demand for a new district to the chief minister and local administration minister, said P Abdul Majeed Faizee, general secretary of state SDPI.
The party came forward with this demand bearing in mind the high population of the district, its wide geographical area and overall backwardness of the region.
Leaders claimed that majority of the people in the district is in favor of bifurcation. A recent survey conducted by the party among the people has endorsed this demand, leaders said.
The formation of Tirur district will help the people of the area enjoy the fruits of decentralization. The people of the area think that bifurcation would enhance development of the whole region, Faizee said.
The Malappuram district formed in 1969 is having most number of grama panchyaths and assembly constituencies. While considering the area, though it’s at third place, Idukki district which is area-wise at second place is having population 2.5 million less than that of Malappuram. The leaders also said that new district should be comprised of Taluks including Tirur, Ponnani and Thirurangadi. The total population of the aforesaid area will come to 1.8 million. Area-wise, remaining Malappuram district will come at 7th place with 2,559 square km.
State secretary V T Ikramul Haq, district president M Bapu Master, general secreatary P M Basheer, vice president T P M Saidalikkutty and secretary Jaleel Neelambra also participated in the press conference.

SDPI demands Indian Govt. to snap ties with Israel
The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has been shaken to the core at the news of attack on a flotilla in international waters carrying peace activists and humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza by the Israeli forces. It has demanded that the Indian Government should come out openly to the aid of helpless Palestinian people while snapping diplomatic relations
The SDPI President, E Aboobakker, in a strongly worded statement said that the dastardly attack should not only be condemned in most vehement terms but also some strong-arm action should be taken against the rogue state of Israel by the world community to desist it from repeating such barbaric and inhuman acts of aggression.
Aboobakker said as a first step the governments of the world should recall their envoys from Israel forthwith. Just condemning the incident will have no bearing on Israel. The United Nations and the International Court of Justice should take cognizance of this gory incident and undertake appropriate actions to rein-in the Zionist state.
Social Democratic Party of India is deeply anguished at the Indian Government’s belated routine response over Israel’s role in the flotilla attack. The Government of India should immediately withdraw from all civil and military cooperative ventures with Israel, SDPI President pleaded. It is a disgrace for the People of India that our nation is the closest friend of the damned country.
It may be pointed out here that the Flotilla was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is under relentless and inhuman siege for almost three years by the Israeli forces. Seven hundred human rights activists, parliamentarians and many prominent personalities from nearly 50 nationalities were on board when it was illegally attacked killing 20 people and injuring about 50 people. Also 450 activists from different countries were taken into custody by Israel from the captured ships. The siege by Israel is in defiance of the world community as defined by the United Nations Security Resolution No. 1860.

Civil rights activists demand probe into Rajasthan blasts
The Hindu Special Correspondent 31/05/2010
JAIPUR: Civil rights activists organised a symposium on “Rajasthan in the grip of saffron terrorism” and took out a rally here on Sunday demanding a thorough and exhaustive probe into the October 2007 Ajmer dargah and May 2008 Jaipur blasts to catch the real culprits and masterminds, who they said were still at large.
The rally from Shaheed Smarak to Civil Lines was organised by the Social Democratic Party of India, which also demanded immediate release of innocent Muslim young men put behind bars on charges of involvement in unlawful activities and payment of compensation to those wrongfully detained.
SDPI national president E. Abu Bakar said the State Government had itself admitted that the 13 persons charged with unlawful activities were not involved in the blasts. The rallyists submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot demanding a fresh investigation into the Jaipur blasts following the Ajmer blast probe which has thrown up the names of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ‘pracharaks'.
Speakers at the symposium, analysing the investigation of Ajmer blast, said the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Rajasthan police was not collecting hard and clinching evidence against RSS, while the three accused arrested by it were active members of Abhinav Bharat supported by the Sangh Parivar. Even after cracking the Ajmer case, the ATS is silent about its connection with the Malegaon and Hyderabad's Makkah Masjid blasts.
Feroze Mithiborewala of Mumbai-based Bharat Bachao Andolan said the investigators should pay attention to “political context” of each terror attack in the country to reach their masterminds. He said the Hindutva terrorism coming to light had international ramifications with the geo-political map of the world being redrawn by imperialist forces.
Delhi-based activist Subhash Gatade expressed surprise over the lack of follow-up on Rajasthan Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal's charge against RSS about involvement in the Ajmer blast. He said the innocent Muslims framed in both the Ajmer and Jaipur cases should raise their voice for compensation and punishment to the guilty police officers.
Kavita Srivastava of People's Union for Civil Liberties said the arrest of three accused having links with the Hindu outfits in the Ajmer case had proved that an Abhinav Bharat module was active in the State. Rajasthan High Court lawyer A. K. Jain said the State police had found “open and clear leads” in 2008 pointing to the involvement of Hindutva groups in the Ajmer bombing, but it picked up innocent Muslim youths and tortured them. “The recent removal of three officers from the team indicates that the ATS wants to hide some facts.”
