    65 SDPI backed candidates won the Gram Panchayath election which was held in the month of May 2010 in Karnataka.
    SDPI state president Majeed Kodlipet said that party contested 368 seats in 214 ward of 118 Gram Panchayath in Karnataka

    39 candidates from Dhakshin Kannada, 8 from Coorg, 11 from Udupi, 3 from Tumkur, 1 from Hasana, 1 from Kolar, 1 from Humsur, 1 from Ramnagar won the contest.
    "Result proves people of Karnataka accepting the party which was formed just few months back, He added.
    More results are still to announce and he is positive that few more SDPI backed candidates to win from Tumkur, Hasan and Dhakshin Kannada.

    Counting of votes in the two-phase Gram Panchayat elections in Karnataka was taken up today, with political parties engaged in the process of assessing their strength at the grass-roots level.
    Till late this evening, the counting process was still on, and State Election Officials said the full picture on the poll outcome would be known only tomorrow.
    Police used mild lathicharge in some places to thwart attempts to disrupt counting or quell trouble over result by supporters of lost candidates but it was by and large peaceful.
    Ballot papers were used in voting held in two phases on May 8 and May 12 in all the 30 districts with 2.51 crore electorate exercising their franchise.
    There were 2.32 lakh candidates in the fray for 80,159 seats in 5474-gram panchayats. As many, as 7,878 candidates had already been declared elected unopposed.
    The elections were not fought on party basis but a vast majority of candidates owed their allegiance to main political parties of the BJP, the Congress and JDS. Taluk and Town panchayat elections are due this year.
