Indian Election Commission registers SDPI as political party
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India, (ECI), has registered the newly formed Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), as a political party under the 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to Election Commission letter dated April 30 the SDPI has been registered w.e.f. April 13, 2010.The national president of SDPI is E. Abubacker while vice president is Adv. Sajid Siddiqui. The national general secretaries are A. Sayeed and Umar Khan.
It may be mentioned here that SDPI has been formed to realize a social order and political system based on the Indian Constitutional ideals of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity. The party is working exclusively for the welfare of Minorities, OBCs and other marginalized groups.The SDPI has state committees in 15 states of the country with mass following in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The SDPI was formed on June 21 last year and a month later it was officially launched on July 29 in New Delhi. Then, on October 18, 2009 the first delegates convention of the party was held in New Delhi was held wherein the party’s manifesto was released party president E. Abubacker who made the formal declaration of the party. The manifesto has put forth the slogan of “Freedom from Hunger, Freedom from Fear”.
So, the SDPI has proposed short- term and long- term measures which will ensure protection of rights, equity and justice and called upon the political establishment to revise policies, plans and programmes in order to stop accentuation of economic disparities and to foster economic growth with justice.
The manifesto underlines that SDPI has been launched to mobilize people to work for alternative socio-political and economic model that is sustainable, pro-people and democratic in its core –principles. Such a model alone will take India to greater heights of prosperity and justice. “We seek the support of all people irrespective of their caste or creed”, it added.
As such SDPI has been launched to empower Muslims and other deprived communities. It is time to bid goodbye to tactical voting and go for strategic plans designed to achieve adequate representation in legislative bodies, the party’s manifesto has said
