  • It’s High Time for Backward Sections to Unite: Thaheedul Islam

Kollam (Kerala): For the liberation of backward sections of the society, it’s high time for them to unite, said Thaheedul Islam, Social Democratic Party of India’s West Bengal president. He was inaugurating the public meeting at Ayathil junction held as part of reception accorded for Jana Kerala Yathra by SDPI.

The unity of the oppressed people is the very aim of the party, he added. Even after six decades of independence, the majority of the country id reeling under hunger and poverty. The upper class people who constitute only 15 percentage of Indian population are in the helm of all affairs. All governments and parties which claim to be secular are discriminating against Muslims, Dalits and other backward classes, he told the big gathering who reached here to welcome Jana Kerala Yathra.

Even in West Bengal, where so called pro-poor communist party is in power for last three decades, backward sections are below poverty line. The government there couldn’t even give safety for minority communities from the atrocities of Hindutwa forces, he alleged.

The Yathra was received by hundreds of people of Kollam with great fervor and enthusiasm this morning. It will continue its journey through the district tomorrow before entering Thiruvananthapuram. The Yathra which began form Kasarkode on 2nd of this month will conclude on 24.

Assign lands for landless, Put an end to atrocities against Dalits and Adivasis, Stop police terror against minorities, Restore reservation policy in the constitution, Take action on Mishra Commission report are the main slogans being raised in the Jana Kerala Yathra.
