Rousing Reception for Jana Kerala Yathra In Malappuram
Manjeri: Malappuram distrcist, the land of legendary struggles against colonial powers, wholeheartedly welcomed Jan Kerala Yatra led by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) today. It entered the district this morning via Ramanatukara, with the escort of 500 bikes and 200 cars. More than 2000 people gathered in precession at district border to receive the Yatra.
On the seventh day the Yatra got rousing receptions at Pulikkal, Kondotty, Pookotur, Valluvambram before it concludes at Manjery for the day.
Jan Kerala Yatra, flagged off from Kasarkode last Friday, has already become the household name in the areas it covered. Thousands of people, especially from backward-minority communities, gathered at reception points. People in every walks of the society are showing great interest and enthusiasm to receive the Yatra and give ear t the slogans it raises.
Elaborating on the slogans of the Yatra, director V T Ikramul Haq spoke about the hypocrisy of mainstream political parties in the country. The so-called pro minority parties were using them as mere vote banks to gain the power. In issues like Babri Masjid, Women Reservation Bill, these parties were betraying the community- he said.
SDPI state general secretary P Abdul Majeed Faizee, Captain of the Yatra M K Manoj Kumar, SDPI state vice president P K Gopinathan, state leaders K Muhammdali, Yahya Thangal, spoke at various reception points. People at various centers submitted memorandums to the leaders highlighting various popular demands.
‘Jan Kerala Yatra’ organised by Social Democratic Party of India was flagged off at a largely-attended public function at Hosangady Kasarkode on Friday evening, creating a new wave of enthusiasm and confidence among backward sections of the society. National vice president of the party Advocate Sajid Hussain Siddeeqi handed over the party flag to the captain of the Yatra, M K Manoj, State General Secretary of SDPI.

The play ‘Bharath Café’ being staged as part of the Yatra got big applause from the audience. The short play dealing with contemporary issues like state terrorism in the name of war on terror and Maoist hunt has become a crowd puller at reception points.
