  • Formation of Tirur District: SDPI Leaders Meets Chief Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Social Democratic Party of India leaders meet chief minister of Kerala, V S Achuthananthan and submitted a memorandum to him regarding the formation of new Tirur district bifurcating Malappuram district.
V T Ikramul Haq, state secretary of the party said in a press conference that even after 42 years after its formation, Malapuram district was still lagging behind in the matter of development. And this backwardness is the main reason behind the demand for a new district. Its need will be clearer if you consider the geography and population of the district. Population wise, Malappuram is in on top. And considering the land area, Kerala is at third place in the state, he added.
The geographical feature of the district itself is detrimental for its development. For example the distant between two cities of the district, is 135 km.
Ikramul Haq also said that, the support they are getting even from Tirur MLA P P Abdullakkutty, was the clear indication of the popular sentiment.
The team who met the chief minister was led by K P Muhammed Shareef, state president.
