  • Fuel Price Hike: SDPI Protest in Kerala

Kozhikkode: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) organized hundreds of protest marches in Kerala today against the central governments decision to hike fuel prices. It also observed hartal in the state. Thousands of people participated in marches held in cities and towns throughout the state.

SDPI leaders urged Congress and CPM to explain how they would alleviate the over burden on the common people caused by taking away the state control on petrol pricing. The consecutive policy decisions taken by the central government were resulting in price increase in all realms of life, said Abdul Majeed faizee, general secretary of state SDPI. He was addressing the protest march held at Kozhikkode.

The fuel price hike shows that Congress is not interested in catering the needs of common man, but in safeguarding the interests of corporate monopolies. With this decision what the Congress government at the centre has done is nothing but to disregard the faith, poor sections of the Indian polity bestowed upon it.
The responsibility of CPM is not mere staging protest against central government. The state government should be ready to reduce the burden of the people by cutting down the surplus tax from price hike, he added.
The march at Kozhikkode started from stadium premise, passed through Mananchra square, Railway station and Palayam before concluding at new bus stand premise. It was lead by Abdul Majeed Faizee, M K Manoj Kumar, general secretary of state SDPI, Musthafa Kommery and others.
The march at Thiruvananthapuram which was held to general post office was inaugurated by Karamana Razaq. District leaders like A Ibrahim Kutty, Nizam Manakkad led the protest march.
The march at Kannur was led by district general secretary Noshad, Hashi, A Faizal and Niyas.
