  • SDPI celebrates its first anniversary

    New Delhi: With the push of historical victory in Karnataka Gram Panchayat elections, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) celebrated
    tribals, women and some sections of the backward communities.

    Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has put forth the slogan of "Freedom from Hunger, Freedom from Fear" in its manifesto which was released in first National Delegates Meet on October 18, 2009. The manifesto highlights that two fears obstruct the organic development of the citizens which are: Fear of hunger and fear of violence. The party will work for absolute removal of these two fears from the mind of common man. The manifesto has called for the empowerment of all marginalized sections of the society by mobilizing themselves into a political force, instead of remaining as mere vote banks of different political parties in elections. It has demanded balanced representation of all social groups in legislatures and all administrative bodies nominated by government, in proportion to their population

    The most significant achievement of the party over the past one Year has been its big victory in Gram Panchayat elections. Social Democratic Party of India has bagged 67 seats in elections. SDPI had contested for 368 seats in the State and has won 67 seats. In Dakshina Kannada, the party fielded its candidates for 273 seats out of which it has won 41. In Udupi district it has claimed 13 seats out of 31. In Coorg, 9 have been won out of 34 seats contested. In Tumkur 3 out of 9 seats have been won besides one seat each in Ramnagar, Hunasur, and Hassan.
    SDPI It made its first victory in Rajasthan Gram Panchayat election in January 2010. The SDPI candidate Mohammad Haneef has been elected as the Sarpanch of the Chann Panchayat in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. He is SDPI Bilapur branch secretary. In all 5200 votes(60 per cent polling) were polled in the election. Out of these the SDPI candidate secured 2448 votes while Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP), candidate Kamlesh finished second getting 1224 votes only. It is important to note here that the total Muslim votes in the Chann Panchayat are 2100 whereas there are 3100 non-Muslim voters.

    The Election Commission of India vide letter dated April 30 has registered SDPI as a political party w.e.f. April 13 this year. The national president of SDPI is E. Abubacker while vice president is Adv. Sajid Siddiqui. The national general secretaries are A. Sayeed and Umar Khan.
